This year’s Annual General Meeting of the Friends of Ellington Park will take place on Friday 6 March, 7pm, at St Lawrence Parish Hall, CT11 0QW.
The AGM will include the election of the Committee for the year ahead (Members of the Friends are eligible to vote), an Annual Report of the goings-on over the past twelve months, as well as reports from the Chair and Treasurer.
We are also delighted to confirm that this year’s guest speaker will be Shirley Thompson, MBE, of the Kent Bat Group, who will provide a talk on the Bats in Ellington Park.
An added attraction for the 2015 AGM will be a Slideshow of Photos from Ellington Park by Michael Millham. The photos will be on show throughout the evening.
Below is our AGM poster. Please share and spread the word. Public meetings sometimes have a reputation for being dry, but we guarantee you’ll have an interesting and enjoyable evening at our AGM, which is never boring!
We were really delighted to find this morning that one of our followers – Mike Bell – had created an absolutely amazing Youtube video of Ellington Park shown below:
There are some lovely shots of the wood-carvings dotted around the Park, as well as a bird’s eye view of the Wildlife Garden. The shots of the Bandstand tell a tale, though: as Mike’s video shows, a serious amount of money and work is required on the Bandstand. We are always on the look-out for possible new funding streams which could contribute to its restoration – watch this space for news on funding!
You can find more of Mike’s work on his own Youtube channel, on Flickr, or on Twitter. Thanks, Mike!
The frost may well still be underfoot, but the preparations for our sixth May Fayre are already well under way, with a number of stallholders – old and new – already confirming their attendance! This year’s Fayre will be on Saturday 16th May from 12pm! Do pencil it into your diaries now!
If you are interested in having a stall, you can find all the details of how to book on the StallFinder website, here. The main thing to ensure is that you have £5 million of Public Liability Insurance cover in place.
And if you would like to join our band of intrepid volunteers – well over 60 turn out on event days, to erect marquees, admit the stallholders, clear the litter etc – all you need to do is give our excellent volunteer co-ordinator, Di, a ring on 01843 279275. We guarantee you’ll have a fabulous time helping to make the May Fayre possible!
Here is a pic of the Dog Show at last year’s event!
Below is a statement from the Friends of Ellington Park in respect of the children’s play area in the Park. which was so sadly destroyed by arsonists last autumn. It is an excerpt from our latest members’ newsletter, released last week – but we feel it may be of interest to non-members too, given how many people ask us what the latest is on the play area’s restoration, and general strength of feeling:
The Friends of Ellington Park is a committee made up of a group of local residents and park users committed to improving the facilities and environment of Ellington Park in Ramsgate, Kent.
