May Fayre 2017!

The May Fayre will be on the 20th of May this year and we hope it will be a lovely, sunny day!

As ever, there will be loads for families to do and see;  music on the bandstand, a huge number of stalls, a bar for the grown ups, bubble football, kitz carts, a funfair, steam train rides for the children and lots more!

This year we’re bringing back the Fun Dog Show… so pamper your pooch, shampoo your shih tzu,  be-ribbon your basset, mollycoddle your mongrel – come along and see if your beloved pet can go home with a prestigious rosette! There’s a small charge, and all the money raised goes to Yasmine’s dog charity.

We’re trying to book a bus to go to and from the harbour so you can park in the Leopold Street carpark [it’s free on Saturdays] as parking can be difficult – and don’t forget that the Loop stops just near the park.

If you’d like a stall [and it’s still only £20 per 12′ pitch] and have market trader’s insurance please email friendsofellingtonpark@gmail.com for a booking form.  No more catering please.

Then all you have to do is keep your fingers crossed for sunshine!

Music Festival “Rock in the Park” back this September!

“Rock in the Park” is back!

The Ellington Park Music Fest is returning next month, after a two-year absence. The trademark event will be taking place on Saturday, 5 September, from 12 noon onwards.

The afternoon will start with the relaxing sounds of trad-jazz from the ever-popular Burt Butler and his Jazz Pilgrims; followed by the acoustic girl duo, Silk. At 3pm you can listen to Rudy Warman and the Heavy Weather, described as the vintage sound of Southern England. Then (4:30pm), the Angelo Tristan Band make a welcome return to the Bandstand after their very popular debut in Ellington Park earlier in the summer. The afternoon’s final act (6pm) will be the fabulous Marc Eden and Friends, who need no introduction, having wowed the people of Ramsgate in the past with the Peckham Cowboys.

Chair of the Friends Beverley Perkins said, “We are absolutely delighted to be able to bring this extremely popular event back to the Park. This year sees some exceptional bands attending the event and we are really looking forward to it”.

There will also be lashings of good food and drink as well as a full bar from Tommy at the Flying Horse, as well as masses of stalls selling a wide range of items, from jewellery and artwork, to clothes, toys and children’s character outfits!

“As ever, there will be lots going on in addition to the great music. It’s that time of year when we all start to think about Christmas presents, and Ellington Park will be the ideal place this Saturday to stock up on unique and exciting gifts for family and friends”.

For children, ‘Lil Jockeys will be on hand with their excellent ride-on animals and the Ramsgate and District Model Engineering Club will be running their steam trains throughout the afternoon. For energetic people – of all ages – the Rodeo Bull will be back in the Park after making an appearance at this year’s May Fayre.

“It’s a fantastic way of supporting the Park and having fun at the same time, come rain or shine”.

Below is our official event poster, lovingly designed by local artist, Sharon Hendy. Please feel free to download, print and share it. We’d love to see you there!

Sunday Sessions conclude with an amazing performance from the Angelo Tristan Band

Last Sunday we celebrated our fourth and final Sunday Music Session on the Bandstand.  Even before the event, we were very pleased at the prospect of hosting the Angelo Tristan Band on the Bandstand, but it wasn’t until they actually began to play that we were totally blown away by how great their music was!

Singing a mixture of their own singles (including their popular 2013 number, I’m Coming Home Tonight) and some rock classics (including an amazing version of Prince and the Revolution’s Purple Rain), they had the crowd inspired.  Band members posed for photos with some of the people who’d come along to the Park to see them and were more than happy to stay on a little longer than planned to play an encore at the request of the fans.

The really really good news is that Angelo and his fellow band members will be returning on Saturday 5 September to play at our music festival, Rock in the Park.  Make sure you pencil the afternoon (12pm – 7pm) into your diaries!

Here are a few pics from Sunday’s event, and if you can’t wait till September to hear some more of Angelo Tristan, you can listen via the Youtube link below (thank you to James Hose for uploading his video).

The Angelo Tristan Band – Not to be Missed This Sunday

Sadly, our Sunday Music Sessions of Music are coming to an end shortly.  Very happily, our final Session – this Sunday, 2-4pm – features the superb Angelo Tristan Band!

If you’re a fan of passionate rock, fused with an element of American country, then Ellington Park is definitely the place to be this coming Sunday afternoon.  In fact, if you like decent music full-stop, but don’t fancy the mania of Folk Week, then Ellington Park offers a more chilled atmosphere.  With the weather set fair for Sunday, why not bring a picnic, visit us at the Ellington Park Bookshop and even have a drink at the Flying Horse Pub next-door.  We’re really looking forward to it, and would love to see you there.

If you can’t wait till Sunday to get your Angelo Tristan fix, you can listen to one of their most loved singles to date, I’m Coming Home Tonight below.
