Last Sunday’s (penultimate) Session of Music on the Bandstand was an absolute dream! The sun shone brightly, Gypskazz and Eric Storm (“Ukelele Eric”) were absolutely superb and there were people – and picnics – in abundance! We are very pleased to announce that we made over £100 this week, mainly in donations and takings from the Bookshop, and would really like to thank everybody who came along and had fun. Here are some pics from the afternoon!
A little belated – apologies, we’ve been very thin on the ground of late! – but here are some photos of the Grand Opening of the Ellington Park Wildlife Garden on Saturday 11th April 2015, paid for by the people of Ramsgate in ITV’s People’s Millions campaign! A great time was had by all. Children were captivated by the local author Geraldine Ann Ford’s wonderful storytelling at the Throne, as well as all the beautiful tadpoles, pond-skaters and water boatmen enjoying life in the new Pond.
The Garden has been open for a month now and it has been wonderful to see how many people – of all ages – have already taken it to their hearts and are thoroughly enjoying this new oasis of calm. Last week, pupils from St Laurence Junior School visited and, armed with clipboards, had a good look at all the pond, plant and wildlife on show. It was wonderful to see so many beaming smiles!
Our new Bookshop has also been a success in its first month! We’re fast getting a reputation for selling reasonably-priced books of a variety of descriptions, and the best thing is that all the money raised goes towards the regeneration of the Park!
Our Annual General Meeting was held on Friday 6 March in St Lawrence Parish Hall.
As ever, it was very well attended. In fact, 65 people turned out for the Meeting this year – an AGM record for the Friends of Ellington Park! – and a good time was had by all.
Photos of the Park by Michael Milham were on show throughout the evening; those in attendance were also treated to Mike Bell’s fantastic video of Ellington Park, taken with the use of a “helicam” drone; and lots of people stayed for an excellent talk by Shirley Thompson of the Kent Bat Group, entitled, Exploring the World of Bats.
In addition to these festivities, the business of the Meeting itself took place – including the election of the Management Committee for the year ahead. We are pleased to announce that the following people were elected to serve on the Committee for 2015-2016:
Ms Beverley Perkins (Chair)
Ms Patricia Scutt (Treasurer)
Dr Sue Martin (Secretary)
Mr Joseph Dance
Mr Alan Linfoot
Ms Dianne Reilly

We look forward to another exciting and important year! Next up for the Friends is the Grand Opening of the Wildlife Garden and Emporium on Saturday 11 April (2pm). Make sure you pencil the date into your diaries!
